Sustainable Laundry Practices at Taj Mahal, New Delhi: A Step Forward in Eco-Friendly Solutions

The initiative is an embodiment of the hotel’s efforts of conserving water and going green as part of IHCL’s Paathya which stands for sustainability, corporate social responsibility as well as green construction.
Water Recycling System Going To A Completely New Level
The Effluent Treatment Plant has the ability to treat and recycle up to sixty kilolitres of wastewater in a single day leading to less dependency on fresh water by the hotel. This system that is free from the use of chemicals and has been certified by IIT-Delhi as well as being IS:10500-2012 compliant gives confidence that the water treated is still processed and safe for recycling into a laundry and other operations within the premises of the hotel.
The deployment of this technology at the Taj Mahal, New Delhi has the effect of saving an amount of water which is equal to the average water usage of five thousand residents of the locality. The technology goes a long way in strengthening local water conservation initiatives.
Leadership and Vision
The project began with Dr. Anmol Ahluwalia, Area Director – Operations , General Manager of Taj Mahal, New Delhi, and Mr. Darashbir Singh, Vice President – IHCL Engineering. The latter project is also one of the components of IHCL’s larger concept promoted by Mr. Deepak Sharma, Cluster Chief Engineer for New Delhi region, namely creating decentralized, water neutral facilities.
